The experience on Mount Etna is beautiful at every altitude… but if you want to reach the summit of the highest active volcano in Europe, the Etna Top Crater tour will take you to the roof of Sicily, at 3,340 meters above sea level, right on the edge of one of the active craters of Mongibello!
RELAX
First of all, leave your stress and worries at home: we will pick you up comfortably in a jeep from your hotel or the agreed meeting point. Let yourself be guided through the villages at the foot of Mount Etna, places filled with vibrant and intense life. As the landscape changes before your eyes… get ready: the off-road adventure is about to begin!
ADVENTURE
A truly “volcanic” route in every sense, the off-road section will take us through chestnut forests and pumice stone trails before reaching one of the most renowned and sensational spots on Mount Etna: the Valle del Bove. Whether covered in snow or in the height of summer, a walk along the edges of the valley will allow you to grasp the grandeur of the natural events that created the highest active volcano in Europe. But the adventure has only just begun!
TOP
The Etna Top Crater experience involves ascending in 4×4 Jeeps equipped for off-road on volcanic trails up to an altitude of 2,800 meters, where the volcanic landscapes resemble those of the moon. From an altitude of 1,800 meters, you will ascend close to 3,000 meters aboard special 4×4 vehicles along a track that offers breathtaking sea views. From this altitude, the highest point reachable by any mechanical means, a trek of about 4 hours (round trip) begins, with a 340-meter elevation gain, bringing you to the edge of Etna’s central crater. The descent can be made either by jeep or by walking along volcanic sand gullies down to the Piano Provenzana station.
